PaperRows

Your bank statement PDF, as rows you can actually use

Drop in a checking statement PDF. PaperRows reads it right here in your browser and shows you the transactions as a table. Look it over for free. If it is right, pay to download it as a plain CSV or a CSV ready for QuickBooks Online.

What you get

Your statement stays on your computer

The PDF is read by code running in your browser tab. It is never uploaded to us. Our server never receives the file, its name, the rows, the amounts or your account number.

Our server only handles three things: taking payment (through Stripe), checking that your download is unlocked, and counting visits with our own simple counter. The counter records events like "a preview finished" or "a file was refused for reason X". It never records anything from the document. When you pay for or download a statement, your browser also sends a fingerprint of the file (a SHA-256 hash) so the unlock works for that statement only. The file cannot be rebuilt from it. Like almost every website, ours has request logs: Vercel, which hosts the site, records your IP address and the URL requested. The privacy policy says exactly what is in them and how long they are kept.

You do not have to take our word for it. Two ways to check:

  1. Watch the network. Open your browser's developer tools (F12 on most browsers, then the Network tab). Drop in your statement and convert it. You will see small requests to our counter, and nothing that carries your file or its contents.
  2. Pull the plug. Load this page, then turn off your wifi or unplug your network cable. Drop in your statement. The preview still works, because nothing needs to leave your machine to make it. This covers the preview only; you will need to reconnect to pay and download.

Which statements work

PaperRows version 1 reads text-based PDF statements for personal and small business checking accounts from:

PaperRows is an independent tool. It is not made by, endorsed by or connected with any of these banks. We name them only so you know which statement layouts we read.

Not supported yet:

If your file is not one we read, we say so plainly before you pay. We do not try to guess our way through an unfamiliar layout. If something goes wrong after you have paid, the refund rule below covers it.

Questions

Is it accurate? PaperRows checks the totals it extracted against the totals printed on the statement, and shows each row's source page and line. If the numbers do not add up, it will not let you export. Matching totals cannot prove every single row is right, so look over the preview before you pay. If you ever find a wrong row, we refund you and work on a fix.

Do I need an account? No. The free preview needs nothing. The $5 download needs only a Stripe checkout. The monthly plan is tied to the email you use at Stripe checkout.

Why did my file get refused? The message tells you why. The most common reasons are a scanned or printed-to-PDF file, a statement from a bank or account type we do not read yet, or a check that did not add up. Each bank's help page lists the usual causes and what to do about them.

Can I send you my statement so you can look at it? Please do not. We never ask for statements and we do not want them. If something looks wrong, tell us the bank, the statement month, and the page and line number from the preview, plus what the statement shows there in your own words. That is where we start.

Does it work with QuickBooks Desktop, Xero or a spreadsheet? The plain CSV opens in any spreadsheet and most accounting tools that take a CSV. The QuickBooks file is built for QuickBooks Online's bank upload. Intuit's upload instructions currently limit one file to 1,000 transactions, so a very large statement may need splitting. We have not tested other tools, so check a small import first.

Does it post into QuickBooks for me? No. You download the file and upload it yourself. We never connect to your bank or your accounting software.

Do you give accounting advice? No. PaperRows turns a statement into rows. What you do with them is up to you and your accountant.

Will you add my bank? Maybe. We add banks when enough people ask. Write to us with the bank name and account type. Please do not attach a statement.
